The main objective of this article is to present an analysis of guiding standards for early childhood education degree programs published in Chile in 2012. To understand national early childhood education standards, the main contributions of public policies in the area in recent years are outlined and a descriptive analysis regarding the proposed new standards is provided. Finally, the main conclusions from this proposal as a contribution to public policy in this segment of school education are presented.
